Single Entry Non Immigrant Type O Visa (marriage)

Featured Replies

I'm a US citizen in the process of marrying my Thai girlfriend. I have the affidavit already from my Embassy and will be filing it and the translation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs next week in BKK. Then register here in Chiang Mai with the local Ampur. Anyway, everyone seems to believe that Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia seems to be the best place to get a multiple entry Non-Imm O visa. Problem with me is, I can't until the beginning of May prove I make the 40,000 baht a month required for this. So I'm stuck getting the Single Entry 90 day then can extend it within the Kingdom. Anyway, here are my questions.

What's the best place to go to get a single entry Non-Imm Type O Marriage Visa?

How Long Will This Take?

Do I pay in Baht or that countries currency?

Can I get all the forms here to be prepared?

Anyway, I've never been to any of the countries bordering Thailand (other than Myanmar/Burma) and I was curious as what you guys thought was the best place to visit while the visa is being handled. Day trips, nightlife, cost/fairly inexpensive, location of embassy/consulate in regards to airport/places to stay. Anyway, I would appreciate any suggestion as far as places to go to get the Single Entry Visa (maybe hotel suggestions as well). I'm a newbie to all this Visa stuff and would greatly appreciate any help and advice anyone has to give. I don't want to get caught in a bad place.

Your getting married and asking about where to find nightlife?

You might have a chance at a multi entry visa in KL if you want to give it a try - I have not heard they require 40k income to issue them.

I would not visit Burma or Cambodia (although some recent reports seem to indicate Cambodia may be changing) for a visa but other locations should be OK. If you plan to travel with the new wife I would go to the old standbys of Penang/KL or Singapore. Singapore will probably cost more but would be a nice vacation.

Most work on the submit in morning and pick up next workday afternoon. Payment in local currency. Applications one page normally only available at gate or office.

Actually didn't mean it at all like that. Depending on where I go, my wife will be coming with me. I meant more on the lines of probably being busy in the day and not being too fond of extreme heat (why I love Chiang Mai) I was wondering about places that have cool things to do at night. Shopping, good restaurants, bars (but not the girlie kind), temples, etc.. Sorry for the confusion:-)

Thought that might be the case - my comment was really tongue-in-cheek.

If she has not been to Singapore there is a lot to do there both in day and night. Penang is nice in day but not much at night. Have never been to KL.
