My friend has to go to the British Embassy next week to get his affirmation to marry and asked me a few questions which I couldn't answer seeing as I married my wife in the

UK. Perhaps you good folk can help.

He downloaded the form and the example form and has these queries

1) He got his passport renewed from the British Embassy in Bangkok. In the space where it asks "issuing office" should he put "British Embassy Bangkok" or the authority code on his passport photo page which says "FCO"?

2) The form asks his salary. Should this be in pounds sterling or Thai baht? (He's paid in Thai currency)

3) When he has to get the form translated into Thai to take to the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs does everything have to be translated into Thai (for example, if his name is John Smith from Brighton and his mothers name is Beryl should this be translated into the Thai alphabet) or just the things like "Passport expires on"?

I'd hate for him to turn up at the embassy and they send him on his way because of a little error

I tried to direct him to this site for himself but his internet connection is very patchy at the moment.

Thanks for any feedback.

1. British Embassy Bangkok

2. Either should be OK

3. Just take it to any translation agency near the Embassy - there are several right on the otherside of the footbridge outside HomePro - should cost around 500baht - they will know what to do and it takes less than an hour if they are not too busy. For mine, everything was translated into Thai.

If your friend already has his name in Thai on some Thai official document, eg work permit, he will want to make sure that it gets spelt the same on the translation of this affirmation document and later on his marriage certificate.
