For a nation that professes to be tolerant the Thais sure do a lot of complaining

I just can't stand chief of which are rip-offs that cost my children their inheritance, dogs and noise.

I often read this column,  critically I must admit - I am a fellow writer and I am jealous of this stage on which Rooster struts.

The above quote had resonance with me as I have fallen foul of the great property owning scam which next week will see my farang children deprived of a big chunk of my life's savings thanks to Thailand's racist and medieval laws that prevent a foreigner owning his own castle.

The whole scam is a joint venture between Auditors who do the tax on your 'Company's' asset; lawyers who conspire with each other despite representing opposite sides; estate agents who lie about the ease of house ownership, and, not least, greedy grasping wives.

I also hate dogs; not just noisy ones.

I post infrequently on here mostly because my old iPad is prone to crash mid-stream. However, whenever Rooster mentions dogs he immediately gets my attention. So, let's see if I can complete my rant before Mr McApple decides to deny me!!

I cycle (the non-engined variety) most days and usually it's an enjoyable experience. The roads around me in rural Loei are quiet and whilst not entirely traffic free, my fellow users are usually of the slower driver variety. But, dogs are another matter. Rarely a day goes by without the wretched curs barking at nipping at my ankles as I cycle innocently past them. I've posted before about the methods I've adopted (and considered adopting) to deter the beasts, but since Rooter's post was about complaining, I'll limit my comments ro just that. Generally (there is no norm as dogs like humans all have individual personae) the worst of the bunch appear from remote properties and farm buildings - those in the villages are more scared of their neighbouring dogs than they are of me

I'll tolerate the dogs a few times and many give up once they realise I'm harmless. But, when they persist, I often pull into the property and confront the 'owners' (if dogs her can be construed as having owners). Sometimes I see them slinking out of the back to avoid confrontation, but the ones I do manage to rant at are usually deferrent and obviously take steps to control their animals as they rarely bother me again.

On a final note, many thanks once again to Rooster for his excellent posts. I don't see the need for news where I live, but it makes me feel good to get a weekly top up.

I always like Rooster’s intellectual wit with a sprinkle of sarcasm. Thanks for making me chuckle.

As usual an enjoyable read .

I was , however, surprised to see no mention of the “ Reds” valiant victory over their southern rivals !!

Or, maybe you just forgot to add it to your injustice list ?? [emoji51]

Sorry [emoji52]

You complain about the noise and dogs, but nothing about the air pollution, which cannot be easily seen but is pervasive and much more dangerous to one's health. I wear a PM2.5, double layered, exhaust valved mask when out at all times except when eating. For the noise, I also wear an industrial-grade, jet engine, shooting range type noise suppressor. The noise suppressor work fairly well with loud Thai people as well the modified-exhaust motorbikes in motorbike-infested Thailand. Yes, that's right the same motorbikes that are killing 75% of the Thais in the road carnage (but don't get me seriously going about motorbikes).

Ah Rooster! Again, your whinging has reached tier one level! I'm so glad I'm not the only one to have the occasional rant!

Please keep up the good work.

I ALWAYS let the other person win the argument........................if it suits me. ???? ????

Either that or practice "selective" deafness.

FYI Rooster, dogs rummaging in your crotch are acquiring your smell, so they can recognise and be friendly with you next time.

Thanks for the heads up. I always thought they were looking for their lost balls...

Selective deafness I reserve for Mrs Rooster.

It is triggered by the word "ngern"

I'm usually quite calm. That strategy infuriates the hell out of the wives....

Where I live (Bangkok) the air pollution is OK...certainly much less than in the early 1990s before thecrash of 1997. No noise where I live which is why when the factory started being noisy it was so shocking. I have also learned to filter out noise in Scrabble competitions played out at Thailand's malls.

And I ride motorbikes myself. I love the purring sound between my legs...

Thanks for reading.

Sorry emoji52.png

I finished the column on Friday mainly because I wanted to prepare fully for the excitement of 2 am Sunday.

What an anticlimax. Still I am getting over it quite quickly as just getting to the final gave me some of the most memorable moments of my life (in the wins vs City and Ajax).

And I live in hope that this is just the start of Spurs continued dominance over Woolwich FC.

Why don't you start your own blog? One doesn't need to be employed these days to reach an audience...

When I bought my first property in Thailand - a house - I never thought of it as mine. I gave it to my first wife as a present for putting up with me...

Thanks for reading.

You really must stop this weekly show of journalism.

Do you realize how much painkillers cost here in LOS my ribs are bursting. LOL

Thanks for that.

One of my stock responses to people complaining is: "khor yaa gae puat hua haa sip met".

(Give me 50 paracetamol).

It usually gets a laugh and stops the whinging.....

I sympathize.

The idea some people have that Thais are unaffected by this subject of stray dogs is not always true. In my moo ban in Pathum Thani there was a whip round once and the problem magically disappeared.

Try inquiring with some like minded folks....you may garner support among some Thais for actionon the sly.
