how do I get my marriage certificate verified

Featured Replies

Hi, I am new to this forum and could use some good advice

My wife and I are both from the UK and are in Thailand, I am about to apply for an education visa and a dependent visa for my wife.

I have my original marriage certificate, but I have been told that I will need to get it verified by a British embassy.

I have been told that the reason this needs to be done is that when my wife goes to do her 90-day report they will want to see a letter and stamp from the British embassy that the marriage certificate has been verified.

Does anyone know if I can get a marriage certificate verified either in Chiang Mai or in Bangkok?

I have read online that this has to be done in the UK?

Has anyone had any experience with this?

You can do it in the bangkok, all you need is a letter of authencity from the embassy.

It has to be legalised by the Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes, then certified by the Thai Embassy in London. The Legalisation Office will forward it on to the Thai Embassy for you, if you provide a pre-paid envelope. It's much easier to do if you are in the UK. Mine took about 3 weeks although I was in the UK when I got it done.

That's not correct, it has to be done in the UK.
