webfact Posted June 7, 2019 Share Posted June 7, 2019 New cabinet expected this month BANGKOK (NNT) - The Deputy Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, said a newly elected prime minister has full authority to perform his duty, but should wait until there is a Royal endorsement and the government’s policies are announced. He insisted that there was no conflict of interest involved when senators voted alongside elected MPs to choose the next premier. Prof. Dr. Wissanu said parliament will submit the name of the newly elected prime minister for Royal endorsement. After receiving the approval, the prime minister will discuss cabinet-seat allocation with the different political parties and form a new government. The Secretariat of the Cabinet will look into the qualifications and other criteria, before the prime minister and his cabinet can attend the swearing-in ceremony. After the ceremony, the government’s policies will be announced within the 15 days at a meeting of the House of Representatives. Prof. Dr. Wissanu said the current government still has important tasks to attend to. One of them is the ASEAN Summit, which will be held on June 22 and 23. Bilateral talks and cooperation between Thailand and other countries would not be disrupted since the newly elected prime minister is also the current premier and there is policy continuity. If the swearing-in and the policy announcement are carried out before June 22, the new administration can take office and oversee the ASEAN Summit. However, it would be more appropriate for the current government to handle the issue. The Deputy Prime Minister said there was no conflict of interest involved when all 250 senators voted for Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha as prime minister. He said the senators were performing their duty in line with the constitution. However, if the senators refused to vote, they could be at fault. Oh sure! Only unscrupulous and forced upon the people for 250 hand picked yes boys to help throw the election against the people's will. There is a HUGE conflict of interest for honesty because of this atrocious forced travesty by the Junta. The gall of this guy and his absurd statements.
