rooster59 Posted June 9, 2019 Share Posted June 9, 2019 MOPH on alert for possible Chikungunya outbreak Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK, 8 June 2019(NNT)-During the rainy season, the risk of diseases being carried by mosquitos must be closely monitored.The Department of Disease Control has asked related agencies to monitor the situation of the Chikungunya infection after 14 students and teachers from Singapore contracted the illness after visiting Ratchaburi. The Department of Disease Control’s (DDC) Director General Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai has commented on the reported Chikungunya virus infection of 14 visiting students and teachers from Singapore to Ratchaburi, saying that the patients exhibited fever, headaches, body pains, and vomiting, while laboratory test results have confirmed they were infected with Chikungunya virus. The DDC has ordered the 5th Disease Control Office in Ratchaburi to immediately conduct an investigation and locate any other patients in the area. The 14 patients are now reported to have recovered from the disease and have returned to Singapore. The DDC will be coordinating with the International Health Regulations (IHRNFP) in Singapore to follow up on the case. The disease investigation team has initially found that the area where the infection took place is home to breeding grounds of mosquitos in communities, schools, and hospitals, and has a higher than standard mosquito larva index. The team implemented measures to destroy the breeding grounds by spraying chemicals in the rea on 5th June, distributing mosquito nets and repellant, raising public awareness of diseases carried by mosquitos, and is on high alert for possible new cases. 3,592 cases of Chikungunya infection have been reported from 1st January to 3rd June 2019. There have so far been no fatalities. Then you would of thought they would of known of the dangers and precautions, with the singaporeans getting all that info from their government. But here you had 'teachers' that didn't prepare themselves or their students of the possible dangers, sounds like someone dropped the ball considering how many people travel to Thailand and don't get sick (with common sense preparations)... 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm in my second week of a 'Dengue Fever' illness which set in just after my return home..... A very miserable (aching) illness with fevers and heavy fatigue-feeling............
