Currently on Non-ED, expires on the 1st July.

I am in talks with Thai company based in BKK and they would like to hire me, have offered a contract of one year, and wish to sort out my WP.
However, depending on the source, the process for obtaining (non-b then WP) or (WP acceptance of application, then non-B) from a non-ED is pretty confusing.  The company runs 100% Thai and they have very limited experience in dealing with these things. If anyone has any rock solid information on the subject I would love to hear it.
As I have heard, I am allowed to apply for a WP at the Ministry of Labour, receive some kind of receipt and then take this receipt out of country to apply for non-B at a Thai consulate. Then return to Thailand and carry on with WP application.  Is this true? If it is then which WP form would be suitable?
Or is it a case of leaving, waiting until my current extension of stay expires, obtaining tourist visa, and returning.  To then change to Non-B (at immigration) then apply for WP?
Thanks in advance

The work permit office will not accept a application for a work permit with a non-ed visa entry or an extension of stay based upon attending a school.

Most people leave the country to get a tourist visa then apply for the work permit to get a work permit application approval letter. Then go out again for a non-b visa or if you can qualify for it apply for a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category B)  entry at immigration.

Another option is to leave the country, send copies of your passport to your employer to prove you are out of the country so that they can use a WP3 form to apply for the work permit. Then you wait for them to send the receipt for the WP3 application so that you can apply for the non-b visa.

How much is the cost of a one year non-B extension of stay?

It is the same 1900 baht fee charged for all extension of stay.
