In other words, same as last year, and the same as the past 50 years.

Brilliant aren't they? Since it has never been very effective in the past it'll probably work this year! The Thais must think so, they voted for these guys.

In a way, he is absolutely right. He had good intent however the corruption which is indemic throughout the civic system in Thailand crippled his ability to develop the water clearance systems to sufficiently reduce flooding levels in the wet season. The advancement of water treatment must be proactively overseen by the government, using government engineers and I would suggest the army to undertake the developments. Only when funds are not being exchanged for advancements, and those answerable to government overseeing these works, can an environment be created whereby success is not a possibility, but the expected and demanded outcome.

As he said, he cannot walk on water, and the system prevented him from stopping the water from coming. He was a good guy, IMO. Too bad they picked him off over such a small thing.

I remember him well. If he was a good guy he would have fought the system not just lied down and let people walk all over him and let BAngkok folks suffer massive flooding in their houses and in the streets.

However the reality is that he was a very domineering, demanding, rude even insulting man, at times very unpleasant, who was very determined to have things his way regardless of what was ethical or clean. And he had quite some reputation for demanding his %.

"Too bad they picked him off over such a small thing."  That's not even close to the reality of what happened, he knew well that the appropriate regulations stated that the PM could not have other jobs (true in 99% of countries in the world). He ignored the regulations, normal for him, he spent hours every week (when he should have been focused on the needs of the citizens of Thailand e.g. flooding, and the the development of Thailand) shopping for ingredients and hours in rehearsals and hours in filming his cooking show. I recall well at the time many observers mentioned that what he cooked was very simple everyday Thai dishes, nothing special.

He said he wasn't paid for these shows but it was proven conclusively that he was paid. He told lies.

I don't remember Article 44 being invoked to ban flooding, so it doesn't count.

That super smart democratically elected guy running the show said 5 years ago that Bkk would never flood again! - "its just water taking time to drain."

Yingluck came out with that bull s&%t after 2011 floods

Maybe Prayut will order the water to recede.

This problem will never be resolved under such stubborn old style leadership. Never ever.
