    Prayut voes to keep Thais happy, WELL IF THAT IS THE CASE..... GO. Many Thais in this area is not in the least bit happy about the recent nonsensical goings on.

  • Good to know that Prayut is filled with the spirit of "love, unity and compassion". We have seen SO much of that over the last five years, have we not? And doubtless we shall see much more ...

  • Maybe I need glasses but is there not one person missing from the swearing-in ceremony?....

General Prayut Chan-o-cha was royally endorsed for his second term as prime minister

already speaking about the next term in 5 years???.he's serving his self elected 1st term as PM

It was expected that the retired general, who was elected as premier by Parliament last week,

if he's retired why is he allowed to work...IMO guidelines clearly specify retired people can not perform any type of work

Long admired a man with a sense of humour in the face of adversity ????

And how long is this second term supposed to be?  4 years? 5 years?  What document or law governs that?  The constitution has been batted around an generally ignored for decades.  Of course any "official" term of office is meaningless as he is in charge of any and all rules just as when he decided to initially take over

with or without a new Cabinet by then, Prayut as premier would be chairman of the 34th Asean Summit, which takes place in Bangkok on June 22-23.

This tells me that the NCPO are planning to stay in charge until at least the end of June, and quite possibly indefinitely, as now suddenly we can't "legally" have a government until Prayuth says a few platitudes about the government's vision. Next they'll tell us Prayuth's got a sore throat and can't speak - new government can't form etc. etc. What utter crap. This joke of a regime gets worse by the minute.

I predict the first decision of this "government" is when and where the casinos will open. At least then the Thais can place a wager on how long this farce continues.

I will safeguard the dignity of the institutions of state, religion and the monarchy, which are deeply cherished by the people of Thailand ...

... whom are not considered a pillar of Thai society.

For five years as the junta leader Prayut has shown through his exercise of absolute power and now 50% control of the Parliament through junta-appointed the Senate and marginal control through the House that the Thai electorate are more an inconvenience (note that nowhere in Prayut's statements is the word "democracy").

The State cannot be cherished by the Thai people if the State does not cherish the Thai people.

When the dignity of the Thai people is respected as mandated in the Constitution, then there shall be a unified nation.

One day a Rooster, the next a feather duster.

He might very well be Royally endorsed, however he now has to convince at least 95% of the Population to trust him, the other 5 % are his cronies anyway . An uphill battle and NOW without HIS RANK to fall back on, a target for many

Well not exactly except for fact that Prayut last month refused to comply with the constitution's provision to place himself and his government into "caretaker" status.

Chapter VIII, The Council of Ministers,1 :

Section 169 (selected parts with my italic emphasis)2

The outgoing Council of Ministers under section 167(2) [Ministers vacate office en masse upon the expiration of the term or the dissolution of the House of Representatives] having to continue to perform duties under section 168 shall perform duties subject to the following conditions:

  • (1) refraining from acts which result in giving approval for works or projects or which creates an obligation on the subsequent Council of Ministers, except as already determined in the annual appropriation;
  • (2) refraining from the appointment or transfer of government officials holding permanent positions or receiving permanent salaries, or officials of State agency, State enterprise , or undertaking in which the State is a major shareholder, or discharging such person from the performance of duties or removal of such person from office, or instructing another person to perform duties in lieu of such person,the expiration of the term or the dissolution of the House of Representatives except by prior approval of the Election Commission;
  • (3) refraining from acts which result in giving approval to the expenditure of budget reserved for an emergency or exigency, the expiration of the term or the dissolution of the House of Representatives;

None of the above constitutional restrictions will be followed.

Seems Prayut's absolute power is still in place to overrule the constitution even after formation of the new Parliament and his PM endorsement.
