Bangkok: Student on new motorcycle hits bridge and falls to death on car below

A 22 year old university student on a brand new bike without plates hit the side of the Rama 4 bridge over the five way Pak Kret intersection and plunged to his death below.

Pak Kret police at the scene in the Tuesday rush-hour found the lifeless body of Benjaphon Meehiran on the back of a Toyota Altis.

The body had a helmet in place and there was blood coming from the nose.

Up on the bridge a red Honda PCX was found on its side. There was damage to the edge of the bridge.

Altis driver Somphop Phokaew, 57, said he was going to pick up his wife and child from a school in Petchkasem when he heard a loud noise and thought someone had gone into him.

He got out of the car to find that a large crowd had gathered to look at the remains of the young student that had smashed his trunk and the rear window of the vehicle.

A friend of the victim that arrived at the scene said that he had just bought the motorcycle and was going home from university when the accident occurred.

The accident happened outside Major Pak Kret in the Nonthaburi area north of Bangkok.

Technically no it doesn't have "gears" it has CVT or continuously variable transmission, which is basically a couple of variable pulleys, connected by a drive belt, which adjust the faster you go.

RIP! Speeding without having much experience is never good.

Fortunately the first time I came off there was only a hedge.

The student drunk himself and pushed the gears to high.....

Deaths from motorcycles seem to keep the population numbers down.

A PCX got no gears, it's automatic. ????

Then it still has gears but is self-changing......

It has gears in the final transmission which don't change. There are no gears in the primary transmission but the ratio changes. ????

How wrong you are

Thai population is growing fast despite meny dead on roads

In this case he probably died because lack of driving skills and high speed

Thai people never learn

High speed kills but again this is me first generation

He said death via motorcycle accidents seems to keep the population numbers down... which indeed they do...

He did not say that it puts the population into minus figures!

You may want to check your facts. Thailand's birth rate is at 1.48. Not very good. Plus this:

Here lays the body of benjaphon, his bike stopped but he went on.

full marks for being so kind just to take himself out and none of the innocent.in fact give the fella a medal as he's now earned his parachute wings.

I think there is a  fine divide in interpretation of that which I cannot decide if is  crass or  sympathetic. But I do lean towards one  side of that divide .

So, probably no experience on a bike and no license. RIP

It's not like a car.it has only one gear that variates with the speed.

Bad luck would have my sympathy but stupidity don't im afraid to say.

I wasn't there and don't know the cause, only what I read. There are ample TVF experts, most likely not having witnessed the tragedy, who will opine the "facts" as they see them. Another senseless roadway death in this Land of Sadness.

I didn't know about that and had a look at Thailand's demographic on wikipedia.

Birth is going down and death is going up at an alarming rate ????

Within a few years the population will be shrinking.

Year / Population / birth / death / change

2012    64,456,695    801,737     415,141 386,596
2013 64,456,695 748,081 426,065    322,016
2014 65,124,716 711,081 435,624 275,457
2015 65,729,098 736,352 456,391 279,961
2016 65,931,550 704,058 480,434 223,624
2017 66,188,503 702,755 468,911 233,844

Saw a kid riding a bike on a busy road yesterday, he could not have been any older than 10 or 11, no helmet, flip flops, no brain.

The motorbike specs are far more interesting than just another copy and paste Thai road accident statistic- because that’s all he is now.

"In this case he probably died because lack of driving skills and high speed"

How can you possibly know that was probable?  And speculation doesn't count.

So, probably, you have no idea of the circumstances.

How was the student in this accident showing "stupidity"?
