Banking In Thailand

Hi all,

I am a Belgian resident, living in Thailand since 2000 (Nakhorn Ratchasima), and married to a Thai woman.

I have also a lovely 2 years old girl.

My wife doesn't speak Dutch (she knows barely some "broken English").

In order to provide my wife and kid some surety if I would die, I would like to transfer my savings into an International Bank in Thailand with branches in Europe and in a foreign currency.

This way I would have access to my savings in Thailand and in Europe.

Of course, preferred intrest rate should be more or less the same as in Europe (4%).

I have an account at Asia Bank since 4 years, but this bank doesn't allow savings in foreing currencies.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated?

Carlos

I had an experience last year about the same problem with the Bangkok Bank in BKK. They would have opened an account in foreign currency under my name but were keen to deduct 1% of the whole sum in advance. (for their expenses....) The interest rate was tending to zero. Last year. Maybe things have changed since then.
