BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's baht has risen faster and more than regional peers over the past two weeks, driven by domestic and external factors, a central bank official said on Thursday, as the baht hit its highest level in nearly six years against the U.S. dollar.

Phalang Pracharat seeks injunction on suspension of MPs over media shares

PHALANG Pracharat Party yesterday asked the Constitutional Court for an injunction on the possible suspension of its 27 MPs for holding shares in media companies, arguing that these cases were different from the one faced by Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit.

Sharp, BTS and VGI team up to bring fresh air to BTS SkyTrain

Police have netted another 478 mostly-illegal foreigners during surprise raids in more than 200 locations around Thailand yesterday (Wednesday) – most illegal immigrants. The assistant national police chief cited the 34th ASEAN Summit being held in Bangkok (that started today) as part of the security crackdown.

KTC expects personal loan industry to grow by 8 – 9% this year

BANGKOK (NNT) - Krungthai Card Plc (KTC) expects the personal loan industry to grow at an average of 8-9 percent, from eight percent last year. However, there are still challenges arising from the Bank of Thailand (BOT)’s personal loans’ control measures and the high level of household debt in the country. KTC plans to penetrate markets and expand the customer base for loans.
