BANGKOK, 21 June 2019 (NNT) - The ASEAN Summit which is hosted by Thailand got underway today at an official level before the leaders’ meeting takes place on the weekend. Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has emphasized that he will establish equality and promote women entrepreneurs in the ASEAN region to become more widely known.

Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a speech at the opening session of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network Meeting which is one of the important events of ASEAN, focusing on strengthening the economy and enhancing the role of women in order to achieve equality. Many countries in ASEAN have gradually succeeded in achieving this change and ensure the contribution of women gets more attention at every level. It is necessary to focus on sustainable development for the benefit of the next generation. Thailand, as the Chair of ASEAN in 2019, has resolved to address all issues including accessing markets through digital channels; supporting access to financial services and enhancing skills for small and medium enterprises and small-scale entrepreneurs, along with women entrepreneurs and fellow workers in a sustainable manner.

At The Athenee Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, in Bangkok, representatives of member states have attended a meeting of the Permanent Representative Committee of ASEAN ahead of the 34th ASEAN Summit on 22-23 June, 2019. Officials have already prepared venues for a meeting of ASEAN senior officials and will host a meeting of senior economic officials, taking place tomorrow. Meeting rooms have been allocated for conferences of ASEAN leaders in attendance, foreign and economic ministers of the bloc, and representatives of business councils, Chambers of Commerce and the industrial sector. The conferences are set to take place on Saturday, June 22.

Stringent checks are being conducted to ensure security at the summit. All participants will be required to display an authorized badge. All roadways to the venue have been secured.

A Media Center set up at the Grand Center Point Hotel, Bangkok, has opened to accommodate members of the news media. Equipment has been installed for use by journalists covering this event, and both Thai and foreign members of the news media arrived for registration and preparations this morning. Members of the news media must sign in at the registration point to receive identity cards and a souvenir fabric bag, before working in the dedicated area.

The cabinet has not even being formalized. So who are the ministers in attendance and in meetings with their ASEAN counterparts. Will they be the coup ministers? If so, their policies will be in legal jeopardy and a real embarrassment for the country.
