rooster59 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Meteorological Dept launches thunderbolt mascot to mark its 77th anniversary supawadee wangsri BANGKOK, 22 June 2019(NNT) - The Meteorological Department has launched the thunderbolt mascot for weather warnings on its 77th anniversary. It has also advised farmers to prepare for a lack of rain from late June until mid-July. The Meteorological Department organized an event to mark the 77th anniversary of the Meteorological Department and to commemorate the originator of meteorological affairs in Thailand. It also launched the thunderbolt mascot in the form of a super hero, which will be used as way of informing people of weather conditions. It was designed by Mr. Ekkarat Milinthaphas, who won the first prize in the mascot design contest. Plaques of honor were presented to the agencies, including the Public Relations Department, which support the operations of the Meteorological Department. Mr. Pichet Durongkhaweroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, presided over the ceremony and stated that, in the past 4-5 years, the Meteorological Department’s agencies have developed technologies, forecasting models and precision. The department has also promoted collaboration with other countries, both regionally and internationally. He has called on the new minister to continue to support the development of hardware and software to keep pace with technology. Mr. Phoowiang Prakhammin, Director-General of the Meteorological Department, has advised people, especially farmers, to prepare for a lack of rain from late June until mid-July.
