Cricky
I would like to spend a few days travelling from Pattaya to Sihanoukville. I thought of riding a motorbike. I will probably leave the motorbike at the border. Has anyone have details of a places to park, leave it long term parking? Any thoughts, what hotels, places to visit along the way?

Popular Post chrissables
Why leave the bike at the border? If you have the green book it's easy to go into Cambodia. Ride to the border the first day, cross in the morning (or the previous night if you wish) FORGET Sihanoukville unless you ride about 20 km east of the main city for a chill out beach. It is a Chinese city, dirty and expensive. Ride down to Kampot and from there many choices, an easy ride to Phnom Penh also. My ride earlier this year, a bigger bike, but i have ridden my PCX to north Laos and the Chinese border, no issues at all a great bike. https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1086835-cambodia-motorbike-road-trip-2019-the-good-the-bad-and-the-painful/ 6
quandow
It's my understanding you have to modify your bike so the headlight can be turned off.

Your post reminds me of what a friend said about Cambodia when I visited him there some years ago. He said everything is illegal in Cambodia but nothings enforced.
Kenchamp
Go for it. A few years ago i used to do all my Cambodian border runs on a bike. In those days before the incessant border scamming and more expensive fuel, you could do it for about 1200b. There used to be a secure carpark on the left hand side as you approach the Cham Yeam border but as another poster said, why not ride into Cambo?
ianezy0
You could visit the airport before you go. They have long silver tubes that get you to places really fast ???? 1 1 1
brokenbone
i dont know of any suitable place to leave on thai side, but if you want to park at the casino in cambodia you need the green book proving you own it to get it over border.

Yes, that is correct, it is against the law to ride with your headlight on during the day. The stupid thing is after I fitted the cut out switch under the seat, they didn't check it at Osmack, spelling?

Yes, light front light off during the day. Honda service center on South Pattaya fitted mine, quick and easy, but have to buy a switch yourself. It didn’t used to be, but your comments support what I had been tol¥ by Cambodian friends....... I thought they might have been exaggerating about the impact of the Chinese - apparently not. I have been a dozen times but I don’t think I will return.

Lucky33
I usually make the trip from Pattaya to Sihanoukville a couple of times a year and I think that you will enjoy your trip. I agree with Chrissables, don't park at the border, just take your green book and ride your scooter all the way. Just remember to log your bike out when you cross back into Thailand, it's a 10,000 baht fine if you forget. Here are my tips. 1. Get a switch so that you can turn your headlight off during the day, it's illegal in Cambodia and the police will constantly hit you up if you can't turn it off. Barring that, you can tape it up and untape it when you return to Thailand. 2. Spend the night in Koh Kong on the way. A couple of my favorite hotels are Asian and Nathy Koh Kong Hotel. The Nathy is new but the Asian has much better wifi if that is important to you. 3. The roads are in good shape all of the way, from Koh Kong out until you hit Highway 3 is a fun ride but the last 100 km on Highway 3 has to be one of the most dangerous roads in Asia so be careful. 4. If you want to park your scooter at the border there is a guarded parking lot for the casino right there, on the Thai side, I think that they charge 200 baht per night. 5. I usually stay at the Independence but it might be more upscale than what you are looking for. Sihanoukville isn't for the budget travelers since the Chinese took over, you might look at going to Kampot which is about the same distance and much quieter and farang friendly IMO. I just made the trip again about a month ago so this is current information. There are plenty of petrol stations along the way so you don't have to worry about fuel. Ride safe and I'll be looking forward to your trip report. Here are some photos that I took on one of my trips. https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public/Sihanoukville Slideshow Edited July 10, 2019 by Lucky33
