Thailand to nominate Southern National Parks as ASEAN Heritage Parks at ASOEN meeting

BANGKOK, 5 July 2019 (NNT) - Thailand is to nominate Hat Chao Mai National Park, Ko Libong Wildlife Sanctuary, and Mu Koh Angthong National Marine Park as ASEAN Heritage Parks at the 30th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment (ASOEN) on 8th-12th July.

 

Thailand is to host the 30th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment (ASOEN) to discuss regional cooperation in solving global environmental issues, such as cross-national environmental problems affecting the economy, society, and national development. The officials will be discussing the conservation of nature and biodiversity, the marine and coastal environment, water resources management, a sustainable urban environment, climate change, chemicals and waste management, and environmental studies on sustainable manufacturing and consumption.

 

Sub-meetings will also be held to discuss environmental issues, including the ASEAN+Japan meeting, ASEAN+3 meeting, and ASEAN+8 meeting, in which Thailand is set to nominate Hat Chao Mai National Park, Ko Libong Wildlife Sanctuary, and Mu Koh Angthong National Marine Park as ASEAN Heritage Parks in an attempt to promote tourism, and receive academic support on efficient area management in the future.

 

The 30th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment will be taking place on 8th-12th July at The Sukosol Bangkok hotel. It is expected some 200 delegates from ASEAN countries and their partners will be attending the event.
