I sent off the app packet two weeks ago.

This afternoon I get a phone call from the Consulate requesting more documents proving my assets and income.

I had sent the SS letter showing my pension of 50000 Baht, and a statement of standing for a savings account of $10.000, US.

I was requested to show more savings.   They would not even acknowledge they had the social security letter, wouldn't accept it, or ?????

I mentioned I had an investment account at USAA with an adequate amount (In itself)  for the 800000 thb, was told to get a statement for that, and send it in.

I assumed it was not going to be easy,  but whatever happened would be easier than dealilng with it in thailand.

What method of money are you using to qualify, I am assuming it is for purposes of retirement;  Money on Deposit or Income?  If the 800k Baht method, why did you not first submit that?

~Combination, submitted SS letter confirming 50,000 thb a month, and also bank statement showing 310.000 thb  in a US savings account.       She kept talking like the SS letter didn't exist, and was afraid to push the matter on the phone with some desk jockey who could rubber stamp me into oblivion.

When I told her i had $20,000  US in a brokerage account at the same bank for the savings account, she told me to send in a statement verifying that.  (Actually have that in a ROTH, and more in a rollover, and other non retirement investment account, as well as a totally seperate amount of $$ at Schwab.

I should have done the simplest things, shuffle money to show the 800.000 thb in ONE savings account, but I don't leave that much money sitting in savings.

Best case scenario, this delays the visa issuance a week.

Worst case.....I've wasted 4 weeks and $250 or so in fees and   courier costs.

I'll get the additional statement in the post tomorrow, but by the time this cooked off, I couldn't contact anyone at USAA today.

For what purpose? I got my OA from DC a few years back, and just used a printout of my USAA account online. No original financial docs required. Maybe things have changed...

For the bank accounts usaa can generate a more official looking letter with current balance.
Not sure about investment accounts?
I have 1 million thb or more in separate 401k accounts at usaa, rollover and normal Roth.
Thought may be simpler to have the correct figure staring at them from one page?

DC is notorious for this kind of stuff

I got a call from a lady there complaining about the number of copies I had submitted and when I read her the instructions from the web site, she said OK, and hung up (they changed the web site a week later)

The Postman delivered the Express Mail with the Visa and my passport an hour later that same day

The secret with DC is to give them too much and make it look really official.  A copy of your statement is even better than an abstract of your account.  A screen capture of your "positions" in a brokerage account really dazzles them.  You can get away with a local police letter but if you give them something with an official looking seal, vice just a letterhead, it goes easier

Main thing is you don't want DC to have to contact you for anything
