Thailand rice exports hit by strong baht, unlikely to meet 2019 goal

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's rice exports fell by 12% in the first half of 2019 hurt by a strong baht, and will likely fall short of this year's target of 9.5 million tonnes, an exporter group said on Wednesday.

Junta pressed to compensate evicted forest-dwellers after reclamation policy revoked

Customs Department reports successful crackdown

The Customs Department reported success in its crackdown on import tax evasion and the smuggling of banned items in June, leading to 1,798 cases worth Bt514 million in damages, which are now being prosecuted, department spokesman Chaiyuth Khamkhun announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

Ethanol firm faces 5.7m baht compensation bill for death of 44 Rahu stingrays

Thailand’s Fisheries and Pollution Control departments are demanding almost six million baht in compensation from an ethanol production company for illegally discharging industrial waste into the Mae Klong River in the central provinces of Ratchaburi and Samut Songkram, killing 44 giant Rahu stingrays and several other types of fish and animals.

Gen Chaicharn denies police asked Ja New to stop political activities in exchange for protection

National airline tops business students’ wish list: survey

Thai business/commerce students chose Thai Airways International as the number 1 on the Universum's 2019 list of 100 Most Attractive Employers followed by Google and PPT respectively. PPT, Siam Cement Group and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand meanwhile remained the top three in the view of Thai engineering students.

Stepfather held, mother hunted after brutal assault of five year old child

Police in Samut Prakarn said they had arrested a 26 year old man after neighbors reported that a five year old child was viciously assaulted at a construction camp in Phrapradaeng south of Bangkok.
