Skin Infection

I have some kind of an infection under the shin in my right cheek.

It's been there for months. I always have a few lone pimples that go away of their own acordbut this is more serious.

Ive tried bursting it and putting Bernadine on it for a while but it kept coming back so I went to my doctor.

She gave me an antibiotic cream but that didn't work either.

I don't know what to do next. It feels like there are lots of small pimples deep under the skin. Every  time one of them comes to the surface I burst it but I can still feel 4or5 more deep down.

The only thing I can think of doing next  is going to a pharmacy and asking for an antibiotic  that is good for skin infections.

Does any one have any better advice.

Get a referral to a specialist, you should have a blood test, before embarking on anti-biotics to test for sensitivities and confirmation of infection

Assuming he is not a child he would most likely know if he was allergic to any antibiotics.

Going to see a specialist will be my "if all else fails" approach.

I think a good dose of antibiotics would do. I'm just trying to find the right ones.

I see that the penicillin family is good but I'm trying to find the name of the specific one.

HiV test for a start, strange skin infections can be an early indication of an immune system problem.

Cellulitus is the other obvious infection, easily cured with antibiotic pills, Amoxicillin 500, 2 pills a day for 5 days around 50-100bht for generic, cream probably won't fix it.

Skin cancer is another possibility.

You really need to see a hospital doctor.

That class of drugs would nto be used for this type of problem.

OP should see a doctor though rather than self medicate. Unless the outer cheek is red and tender to the touch this is nto cellulitis.

Yes it is red and sore if you touch it.

What type of drugs should be used for this type of problem.

Wikkipedia says Amistroxicilin for cellulitis.

Amoxicillin works fine, unless you leave it too long.

The longer you prevaricate, the worse the infection becomes, and the harder it is to cure.

The 21hrs you have just waited is significant.

From personal experience , that should be the FIRST place to go , as you usually waste time and money going to various places  and it works out cheaper to go to someone who knows what they are doing first  , rather spending money on people who have no idea what they are doing

i did not suggest he self medicate.   Also, I will post my warning about this class of drugs whenever possible.    My personal opinion about doctors has been expressed before,  so each person can make their own decisions.   Most people are probably better off to seek out a doctor.

no swab of the infected area for the lab? antibiotics don't work on viruses.

and one simple thought. how much time is you face exposed to direct sunlight each day? try making sure your face is covered and see if the problem gets better.

don't self medicate with antibiotics.

go to Bangkok and find a specialists.

good luck.

In Chiang Mai I would suggest going to:

Dr Vachiraporn Sujaritwanichpong (Dr Vachiraporn)

Chiang Mai RAM Skin Centre

053 920372 for appointments.

She trained at Boston University and speaks fluent English.

I see her quite often. A medication that I have to take makes me prone to skin infections. I also know maybe 5 or 6 other expats who go to her and speak highly of her.
