Grumpy Old Man
Can anyone recommend a quality optician in Chiangmai; I had a optical prescription from the UK but that is now out of date and I need a full eye examination and new reading / close work glasses. Thank you in advance for all your help
Opl
Sawang Optical 6/20 Nimmanhaemin Road, Tambon Amphoe Muang, 50200, ตำบล สุเทพ, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai, tel +66 84 851 7770 Formerly from Samui, they moved to Chiang Mai a few years ago. They ordered high quality Essilor glasses from Singapore, and I 've had my glasses ordered from them each time I needed when I stayed in Samui for holidays Edited July 27, 2019 by Opl

JimmyJ
I started a similar thread last year: https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1059325-good-place-to-buy-prescription-glasses/ I went with the highly recommended Vision Center and was satisfied. The owner gives free eye exams, and his Rx was exactly the same as the one the optician at Ram Chiang Mai Hospital had given me (I'd seen her previously). Vision Center Rajvitthi Rd. (near to the UN Irish Pub) Tel. 053-418336 I'd passed it many times but never paid attention to it - it is on the same side of Rajvitthi as the UN Irish Pub and very close to it, but there is NO sign in English and no English on the door or windows either. The price was higher than I expected, but I feel still less than it would have been in the US. (Cheaper frames were available). Langsuan Man
An Option is a person trained in fitting glasses, they make glasses and insert lenses into frames, they adjust glasses, and they can fill a prescription written by either an optometrist or ophthalmologist An Optometrist is a doctor of optometry, who can perform vision tests, and determine correct vision and perform certain tests regarding refraction An Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) who also performs vision tests but is allowed to dilate your pupils for clearer observation of vision problems deep inside of the eyes, and can perform eye surgery and other more complicated tests So when you are looking for a specialist, try using the right terms

CMoldie
Any branch of Tokyo. I use the one in Kad Suan Kaew and have friends who have used other branches and are also satisfied. Edited July 30, 2019 by CMoldie I was wrong. Things have changed since I was in the UK
