Hi all

Got some friends visiting from o/s and they are after one of the traditional brass cutlery sets... now the odd thing is I've seen them in loads of Thai restaurants overseas but I don't think I've ever seen a set on sale in Thailand!

Does anyone have any idea where (in Bkk) we could find such a thing?

I can't help you out as to where to find them but might I offer a word of warning .

Badly composed brass can react to acids in food and produce chemical food poisoning!

This would only apply if the actual brass parts come into contact with the acid in food though and discoloration should be viewed with great suspicion !

Chatuchuk has a good selection of what appears to be quality cutlery sets.

Don't know if this helps, but I found your query because I was googling cutlery sets since I have one to sell! But I'm in the United States. My mother bought a brass cutlery set - gorgeous, little tea spoons and everything - when she was in Cambodia in 1962. She never used it, and just asked me if I could sell it on eBay. So..... if your friends want to buy this, tell them to email me. I'm not going to put my email address in the reply, because I think that's unwise, but if there is a way we can communicate, I hope you can find it through this site (I just registered today to write this reply!). I'm not sure of the price, but I'll be happy to ship it anywhere, if we go forward with this. Thanks.

The set I bought umpty some years ago, and probably all that you can find today, was bronze. Very rich, elegant tableware if you have good matching (color coordinated) china and linen. But it does take a lot of polishing to make it stand out.
