Why doesn't Ol' fatty and the army chief keep their big mouths shut and let the people in charge of investigation get on with their job????????????  in fact why doesn't Ol' fatty just crawl back into his 19th century hole and take that shit stirring army chief with him!!!!!!

It's a comment rather than an answer, but: Those in charge will have achieved their rank and position through a combination of nepotism, patronage and purchase. They very likely have no idea where to start, other perhaps by rounding up a few of the usual suspects and fitting a couple of them up. The two characters you mention need to reinforce (prop up) their position by being seen and heard to be involved. Were they to withdraw together, it would be minutes before one or the other was in a heap of blood and snot on the floor. They are deadly rivals.

Have they investigated a certain ex military now politician who loves watches, probably with insufficient room at home for all the empty boxes.
