Popular Post webfact
Ministries join forces to set "new safety standards" for Thai water tourism Picture: Daily News Thailand has recognized that something needs to be done to improve standards for tourism on water. After initial pronouncements from the new minister for tourism and sports Pipat Ratchakitprakarn his ministry has agreed to work alongside the transport ministry to improve standards. They will work with state and private enterprises such as tour companies and pleasure boat operators to improve safety for Thai and foreign tourists. Tourism and sports official Chote Trachu revealed the agreement saying that safety was Pipat's number one priority. And with most tourists going on sea trips to islands and travelling on boats in large rivers work needs to be done to ensure safety. And plans need to be in place for unforeseen circumstances, he said. He spoke of clarity, standards and instilling confidence in foreign tourists about travelling over water in Thailand. Popular Post Chelseafan
Judging by the headline, I thought the Thai's were going to other provinces to refill up their water canisters (and collecting 1500baht for doing so)! 1

DLock
Any timeline on when we can expect these new water "safety standards"? ...or the likelihood of an accident on the way to the boat negates the need?
Khun Paul
Safety is a word I am sure NO THAI understands and as for the Ministries, who will enforce the new laws …….NO-ONE !
Redline
Set all the standards you want~none will ever be enforced anywhere in the country (unless it's a crackdown) ????

Yes new as the whole concept of safety is new to them,it's never been tried before, but they will have to thoroughly research the concept to see if it has any beneficial value. wisperone
Why not just use the "Japanese standards". It seems to be working wonders for the new "Road Safety" implementation several months ago.
emptypockets
I can see Thailand achieving world class safety standards just as the last tourist leaves the Kingdom never to return. I'm not saying that as a smart arse comment but more as an observation of the reactive nature towards tourism rather than a proactive action. Don't get me wrong I love the 'flexibility' of living in Thailand but if you want repeat tourists, sort your shit out. No good saying five or ten years down the track 'C'mon Guys...we sorted out all the problems...where are you???' Too late at that stage.
