Married recently.

Featured Replies

Hi. Has anyone any experience getting married lately? I have read some Amphurs are more friendly than others. Banglamung (Pattaya) says it takes 1 to 2 months from submitting the forms till you get a certificate.

Got mine the same day.

I was married a few weeks ago. Used an agent in Pattaya and even he said forget Banglamung as they send all the paperwork back to Bangkok to be certified. We went to Don Mueang Amphur. In and out in 30 minutes.

Is it like buying an insurance policy, where you get two weeks within which you can change your mind?

Lighten up...Or you wont last long here....It was a joke.

I presume the poster was talking about a Thai spouse ? Many places now are discouraging &

are reluctant to marry 2 non Thais,

In my case back in the dark ages 40 minutes,,,,, all done.

Done in 1 day up here last April, as long as you have all of the paperwork that the local Amphoe requires.

Yea no bother, maybe I'm having a bad day but you must admit these type of "jokes" are appearing daily. I'm a <deleted> loony and enjoy a laugh as much as anyone but it's boring my tits off to see them on every thread.

Also got mine in 1 day

Did it the end of May. Had to go and and talk with the Amphur manager......after a few minutes he pointed out he had seem me walking, biking, etc....turns out he lives on the next soi in our complex. Told me I was strong with all the exercising I do. Going in for extension next week.

I did it 46 years ago. Still together. Is that recent enough?!

Wow 46 years, have you lived here that long?

Question is, can you still do it? Congrats though, that has to be a world record for Thailand.

Do you expect anyone to take this loony country seriously?

How long do you need it to be, exactly?

why would anyone want to do such a barbaric act to one self ?

Got married in a village ceremony about six months ago. Went to the local govt office to get paperwork so I could apply for extension based on marriage. Was told by the clerk that we had to go to the Australian embassy in Bangkok to have it confirmed.  Is this a must or is this (female) clerk just being difficult?

When I went (with my gf) to get my Thai ID card the same clerk said if from Australia I could not get it because Australia is not on the computer.  So now I think my ID card reads I come from Austria!

Went in signed the papers issued same day, Banglamung,

My wife local amphur (small town) said they did not have time. We checked Bangkok and without expensive agent seems difficult. I told my wife to insist to her local amphur. We got appointment same week. 20 baht and 2 hours and it was done.

A village marriage is not a legal marriage. The amphur is right that you need a letter from the embassy, next have it translated into Thai and then have it legalised by the Thai ministry of foreign affairs, consular department! Look on your embassies website for more info.

Hi. It would be great to say where from and when as,even though I have sorted it out, would help others.

Was with my son when he took his lady to the amphur office in Tak, all very friendly and professional, everything was 'can do', all completed, certificates in hand, out the door within 20 minutes. No suggestion whatever of tea money etc.

Some of the lady officers were more interested to see the photos of the bride in a traditional full length western white wedding dress and one said she was getting married a few weeks later and asked if she could borrow the dress. DIL changed the subject quickly.

Overall quite pleasant experience. I got asked quietly by one 50 yo lady officer 'you have wife?' I moved away to avoid any further discussion.

We are both fat and old. She has more money than me and is also fatter but if I ran she would still catch me.
