People in the North are warned of exercising in opened areas

Dr. Suwat Kittidilokkul (สุวัฒน์ กิตติดิลกกุล), a Public Health officer of Mae Hong Son province, warns people not to exercise in opened areas as the concentration of dust particles in the air is still higher than the standard level.

Dr. Suwat says the standard level for dust particles in the air is 120 micrograms per cubic meter. However, the concentration in Mae Hong Son is still twice higher than standard. Recently, the level of these particles in the province is measured at 278 micrograms per cubic meter.

Dr. Suwat says the current level is deemed unsafe and can weaken people’s health. He asks the general public not to be at areas with high concentration of dust particles and thick smog. When travelling, they should also cover their noses. As for elders, youths, and people with allergies, they should get advices from doctors quickly and they should stay in their homes until the weather condition improves.

Dr. Suwat says if this situation continues, people should avoid working out in opened areas or they should wear hygienic masks to prevent inhaling dust particles. He says they can ask for hygienic masks at nearby clinics and hospitals.

3,827 patients with respiratory symptoms were admitted to hospitals in seven districts of Mae Hong Son between March 1st and 17th.
