  • That's 9.5 billion USD!!!   If it was worth that much, you'd think they might get it in the day before!   ????

  • Everyone knows the traffic situation in Bangkok and plans accordingly.

  • None of these people can lie straight in bed at night.   Handing in the bid at the last minute is common practice here because no one trusts anyone and they are scared of last minute shenani

That's only 1. The rest aren't.

How can all five competitors all be exactly 9 minutes late.

The five are affiliates of a construction consortium representing Charoen Pokphand Group (CP).

They are not competitors. Likely the project was divided into five segments for bidding purposes; hence the need for five affiliates who would have to submit each segment bid by the deadline. CP would provide overall construction management.

well, there are people who queue up for a new i-phone or some such gimmick for 24 hours..., they even camp out in front of the store.

That's determination. I guess those execs lack that will.

Handing in the bid at the last minute is common practice here because no one trusts anyone and they are scared of last minute shenanigans (ie: you hand it in the day before and they look at the bid and tell the preferred provider the price they have to meet).

Who knows? Maybe the competitors handed theirs in early and CP were late because they were making some well informed last minute adjustments.

Wow does that sort of thing go on ?

Amazing that CP a corporation worth billions can not plan to have the documents delivered before the deadline.

Why do they have to wait. ? Is here a way to find out the content of others submission bids and modify their offer at the last minute ?

Otherwise, 24 hours before would be a safe bet .

Easier to get it there earlier in the day, and just before the deadline hand it in, and get a receipt.

All fixed  by the general wasn't it?

When Thais agree to meet at a certain time, say 3pm, inside their brains they think that is the time they will leave their own room.... so that's why they are often late.... in my experience.

That's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.  Accept the bid and those who submitted on time take you to court, don't accept it and you get the situation at hand.  For sure the best legal stance is "sorry Charlie, you missed the deadline".

Uhm Uhm the dog ate it ????

Not really. One of the other consortiums bidding for the project involved Sino-Thai (STEC) which, obviously coincidentally, happens to be controlled by one of our new Deputy PMs and leader of key coalition partner BJT party Anutin Charnviralkul.

oh me smell a big rat

And they had police escort ????

With so much money at stake (okay, not that much for the CP group....) those CP guys should have been flown in with a helicopter.

They didn't miss it because of the traffic. They missed because they didn't leave early enough. Pathetic.

I can hardly believe that I am reading this nonsense. These companies were given time to do the cost estimate and a closing date!!! Only the Thai mentality would leave it to the very closing day and presumably late in the day to bring the tenders in. The people who organised the handing over of the bid documents should be FIRED for incompetence.

Almost unbelieveable as in my 30 years of bids and tenders in 3 continents of the World I have never known such idiotic behaviour. Amazing Thailand!!

They will make this up with their purchase of Omisego, OMG.

Everyone knows the traffic situation in Bangkok and but not everyone plans accordingly.

How long have you lived in Thailand to know the "Thai mentality"?

I take offence to you calling it idiotic, You obviously don't know the owner of CP and despite your experience in other places, are ignorant of the way things are done here.

Dunno what it's about, only read the headline this time and have reached inner peace for the day.

That must have generated a number of rather awkward telephone calls, both within CP and also to their consortium members......

Rather strange that five contestants miss deadline-not a coincidence me thinks ????

Thais are never wrong nor at fault.

This time it is traffic (a brand-new problem in the equation) and if CP is locked out, the mind-boggling costs are more than one billion US-Dollars per minute delay - apart from the loose change they spent on the preparation of the tender as well as the package costs of the tender documents ????

I am sure somebody is smelling a rat again ...........

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of corporate shysters.

Of course, those who win will be a bunch of corporate angels?

Getting a project doesn't mean automatically a sure profit, could be even the opposite. So, maybe it was their lucky day ... one day we'll know.

Bid closing time is bid closing time.

That’s all there is to it !

Simple.

Never a good idea to leave things to the last minute.

I wonder how much it cost the 5 petitioners to have the verdict awarded in their favor

Even blind Freddy knows this............me thinks typical of the Thai's lack of ability to really plan ahead effectively..........you would think with the big bucks involved they would have camped outside the building the morning of the deadline for submissions............... suck it up guys you missed the deadline for submissions ...........do not pass go do not collect zillions of Baht........

Plan to Fail.png

Any business that can’t submit a proposal on time for a project of that magnitude should certainly not be accepted.

Must be the first project in history of Thailand that isn't awarded to "know-it-all" mighty CP

Hmm, This been Thailand and it's a Bt 290-Billion project ???

They must have been colluding with the one that's going to win !?!?......I can't imagine there's no sort of cheating involved in a Bt 290-Billion project in Thailand !?!?!?

A country where there's already ample cheating in 20 Bt school children meals...
