TNA MCOT reported that the Thai post office are stepping up warnings to the Thai public after many cases of crooks cold calling people or using fake Facebook sites to steal their personal data.

The standard way that people are conned is for calls to people claiming that parcels belonging to them have yet to be collected.

People are told about the parcels and asked to "Press 9".

Another person then comes on the line to explain there is a "new" system. In order to find out details about the parcel they must give their name, address and Thai ID numbers.

This data is then used in a variety of ways to steal from customers such as in banking transfers and hacking.

The post office has also warned the public about fake Facebook sites set up to defraud them.

Some offer 25,000 baht prizes as enticements.

The post office say they do not call people about parcels and do not run websites offering such services to consumers.

The post officials could also warm consumers about postal workers opening and stealing their mail. But I guess that warming will go out in winter time, right now it's warm enough and Thailand doesn't need the extra heat.

They need to warm about cold calling crooks.

Before I came to Thailand, I never had so much concern for cheating or shady promises as I do now a days.

as  opposed to their  staff stealing your parcels?
