Wow someone has big balls.

Just another example of more dumb decisions.

The law is the law though, solution is don’t break it and you won’t get a fine.

Looks like this guy will be driving a truck soon, pity.

Comical - don't break it and you won't get a fine?

I break laws on a daily basis, and in over ten years of daily driving I only paid maybe two fines.

The problem is the enforcement, not the rules, and that's basically what's being pointed out here. More rules without a general improvement in traffic policing (meaning that when you see police in cars and on bikes, they might actually DO something when they see someone indulging in antisocial driving apart from maybe shouting some rude words at them.

Seems to me they just want to cut down on some of the trucks because they're upset they can't go out in their Benz to do some extra speeding.

  • he had the guts to tell how the police system works and he will be looking for a new job very soon.... there's no corruption in Thailand or in the RTP he must have been confused

  • Is he suggesting a lower fine so his members could afford to break the rules?

  • Because other countries have an honest police force.  I don't know what all the fuss is about anyway; Thai police don't work nights; weekends; after four pm; before 9 am; from 11.45 am till 1.15

LOL, they can't even control their vehicles at 80, and you're suggesting 120+....

You are completely missing the point. Which is that regardless of what the speeds are set at, people will drive at a reasonable speed. Which is between 100 and 120kph, depending on the conditions and the highway. 80-90 is just not reasonable, or realistic. And those low speed limits do not deter people from driving far faster. It is simply a basis for revenue, and it results in defiance of the payment of fines. It is inane. Laws that are inane are made to be broken.

No, nobody not a Thai can explain it. It's a superb example of cultural brain lock.

It makes sense if you are raised to think it does. Isn't religion the same thing?

I once had a friend of an RTP officer use the same explanation of why the officer doesn't ticket citizens of the Kingdom for helmet violations.

"They can't afford a fine".

Yeah, fines are supposed to hurt. They are not supposed to be affordable.

In some countries fines are based on income.. Finland for example. Not sure if that is fair.. but otherwise wealthy people will not be deterred ...

EVERY weeks Thailand make some news looks like a first april,
but it's no a joke !

And new fine systems that multiply unpaid sanctions by 5 times would just lead to yet more police corruption.

The rewards system for police should also be scrapped as nearly all the money goes into police pockets leaving little left for the state.

And I thought General Prayut had eliminated corruption ...
