After waiting, for ages, my school finally has all the paperwork required to do my Visa conversion in Bangkok. I just have a few questions about it.

I'm currently on a Tourist Visa, which I have extended for 30 days. The extension is valid until April 7, so I just miss the "21 days" remaining limit.

Could I do a visa run to Cambodia and get a 30 day Visa exempt stamp and then convert this in Bangkok?

Would the conversion give me a full 90 day Non "B" or is it only valid for the length of the initial Visa Exempt stamp?

The school has requested that I do the visa run asap, tomorrow actually and they will personally go with me to immigration to get the conversion done.

I'm a South African citizen, if that helps.

Update on my topic.

I went to immigration, in Bangkok, today and got the conversion with minimal hassle.

If anyone is interested, you can do a conversion from a visa exempt stamp. The conversted visa is a full non "B" valid for 3 months.

Just make sure that you have all the original documents on hand.

That is true. For an “application for change of visa” – as it is officially called – you need the full set of documents that are needed for an application for extension of stay. Only since about last October, I believe, is the change to an non-imm visa possible also from visa-exempt status.

Usually, Immigration likes to see your application for a change of visa with at least 21 days of your permitted period of stay remaining but there have been reports of exceptions being made.

Thank you, Norrad, for the report of your positive experience.
