Jazz remote locking iffy

Featured Replies

Just bought the Jazz with two keys each with a remote

The seller told me one remote was iffy (the right one below) however on trying it just now the first time it locked the car .....once.....but not unlock.

Obviously the first thing to check is the batteries......but for exa,ole last night I couldn't get the double beep OPEN to work so I opened with he key.

This set off the alarm many times when I opened and got in and started up. Somehow I got past this phase but a bit of a pain.

This morning it opened with a double beep just fine. But I don't trust it to do that the rest of the day.

Next thing is i did a search or Kobra but apart from two foreign adds they only have Cobra.

I'd like to look up how the system work

I would reckon either the battery contacts are bad or possibly even the buttons themselves. Some types of alarm buttons don't use mechanical parts but use a layer of graphite on the underside of the silicon rubber button to make contact across some un-laquered bit of circuit board. Get some contact cleaner and some cotton buds and clean the gold-colored contact faces and get a 3B or 4B pencil and freshen up the graphite layer.

As for Kobra Star, take a look at this. I don't do FB so can't confirm if is of any assistance.

Yes, and replace the batteries with new ones from the get go.

There may be a shop at your local big Big C that specializes in car keys and key fobs. They may do a 'service' for a nominal fee.

The FB page has pictures of alarms and fobs.  Use google translate. Or just try a bit harder.

Was heading for Amorn this evening and happened to see one of yr key fob places.
One had a dodgy switch which would be 300bt. To repair
He also showed me that my second fob was useless.
He provided a replacement for 800.
I gotta say it looked cheap and would have a very low water resistance, but hey we all gotta make money and I wanted to know I had something reliable
Didn’t observe any graphite contacts.

Locked car with new fob at midnight in carport.

It locked......And the alarm went off.

And again

And again

As I was waking the household up I left it unlocked for the night

Gonna see if I can learn anything on YouTube and try again

At least it’s locking, unlocking and beeping, maybe I need to learn to use the two othe buuttons

I assume that you brought the fobs to the shop and the new one wasn't tested on the car at the time?

Considering that this is part of an anti-theft device, I am not surprised that a new, 3rd party key fob wouldn't match the coding on the alarm system. Otherwise anyone's key fob would unlock any car. I am surprised that it locks and unlocks.

If not done already, take the keys and the car back to the same guy as he may need to reprogram the fobs and/or alarm or both. Most of these shops have the software on a laptop to do this but if he doesn't, he probably knows who does.

If central locking is the only feature that's important and the alarm secondary, maybe get the alarm system uninstalled and go back to OEM key fobs?

Hi NL
Sorry if I wasn’t clear.
In fact he did test the fob with the car and all was OK.
My problem was a T-shirt stopping the rear door closing 100% which bent the alarm went off when I clicked lock. I moved the T-shirt and everything was just fine.
As things are OK I won’t do anything about the alarm for now but thanx for the thoughtr
