Thailand, Turkey hold bilateral talks on cooperation in labor rights promotion for elderly society

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - Labor Minister M.R. Chatumongkol Sonakul, Labor Ministry Permanent Secretary Sutthi Sukosol, Deputy Labor Ministry Permanent Secretary Suradej Wali-itthikul and Assistant Labor Ministry Permanent Secretary Phatthana Phanthufak held bilateral talks with Turkey’s Family, Labor and Social Services Minister Zehra Zumrut Zelcuk.

 

Topics included measures for the promotion of workers’ social security and preparations for an ageing society while Turkey has declared 2019 as National Year of the Elderly. Related topics included the creation of jobs for people with disabilities. Turkey admired Thailand as chair of ASEAN, for pushing for the setting up of the ASEAN Center for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI).

 

The Thai labor minister thanked his Turkish counterpart for the bilateral talks and confirmed Thailand’s promotion and development of skills of workers of all ages, employment and social security measures. For instance, the EEC project under Thailand 4.0 policy has provided the opportunity for the development of the country’s potential workforce. Future cooperation between Thailand and Turkey is highly anticipated.

I am trying very hard to figure what a meeting between Turkey and Thailand will achieve for labour rights for the elderly. 

Is there a hidden meaning that these two countries have a declining work force and the elderly and disabled will have to be taken out of retirement and made to make a working contribution to the economy?

But. . . but. . . most of the jobs are going to disappear with the roll-out of the robotics revolution. Or hasn't anybody told the Thais and Turks?

I admit, I did read the article twice trying to figure out if I missed anything.

 

It just seems so random, unconnected and out of context.

 

Then again, that pretty well describes Thailand politicians most of the time.
