The Office of the Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand (ERC) announced 34 projects will be implemented under their regulatory sandbox campaign that includes major energy players from both the private and public sectors, such as PTT Group and BCPG .

ERC secretary-general Narupat Amornkosit said the commission announced the list of selected candidates and their projects for its sandbox campaign on August 30.

“Out of more than 100 projects submitted, 34 of them were selected to join the ERC sandbox to test run their energy innovations before employing them for real world usage.” she said.

Notable candidates from the private sector are BCPG, which submitted three projects involving a smart city and green energy community; PTT, which proposed two projects on liquefied natural gas distribution; Gunkul Engineering, which plans two projects involving peer-to-peer electricity trading and wind energy; and Energy Absolute, which submitted two projects involving EV charging stations and storage for renewable energy.

Candidates selected from the public sector include the Metropolitan Electricity Energy, which proposed two projects, one an energy trading platform and the other a virtual battery; and the Provincial Electricity Authority, which submitted five projects on energy storage systems and energy management in various provinces.

The secretary-general said selected candidates must submit action plans for their projects to the ERC for approval, after which they will sign a contract to officially start implementing their projects under the ERC sandbox.

“However, the ERC reserves the right to revoke the permission given to any candidate who fails to adhere to the approved action plans,” Narupat warned.

I strongly recommend, that the ERC board travels to Europe, to see the wind parks in Denmark, the EV charging stations in Germany, as well as the soaring amount of privately owned Solar Panels in Spain, whose owners can feed their overhead into the grid and receive a compensation to do so. They should fly Thai Airways first class and stay in five star hotels, to make the trip worthwhile.

They do the solar panels here a lady down the street from us has them on her house and they back feed the excess to the grid. What the country needs to do is subsidize the cost then they might get more people to install them

But I have never ever heard of a law in TH compensating the owners of solar panels are being compensated according to their input into the grid. And any subsidization will lead to a decentralized production of energy, which surely is not on the mind of the greedy power companies.

No need to compensate. The meter just runs backwards, lower bill at the end of the month. True but illegal.

I thought there was an interface with the electric company that they had to approve

In theory, yes. In practice, no. Until you get a negative bill, then they smell my avatar.....
