BANGKOK (NNT) - The 7th Thailand-Myanmar High Level Committee (HLC) Meeting was held on Tuesday (Sept 3). Before the meeting, the Supreme Commander of Myanmar, Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, and the Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Thailand, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, met and agreed that both countries would work together to address issues along the Thai-Myanmar border and improve the quality of life of their citizens.

Myanmar’s Supreme Commander paid a courtesy call on Gen. Prayut on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to attend the 7th HLC Meeting.

Both sides agreed to jointly address the border issues, such as terrorism, narcotics and illegal fishing, with the support of neighboring countries. They also agreed to enhance cooperation in education and military training as well as expand the scope of training.

The Supreme Commander expressed his condolences over the loss of Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda. He then thanked the government of Thailand for its understanding of different events in Myanmar and its support for democracy and peace. He said Myanmar will remain a good neighbor and will closely cooperate with the Thai military in all respects.

At the 7th HLC Meeting, Myanmar’s Supreme Commander and Thailand’s Supreme Commander, Gen. Pornpipat Benyasri, chaired the meeting at the Peninsula Hotel, Bangkok. The meeting acknowledged the resolution of the 33rd Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting and other security-related meetings.

The meeting discussed exchange visits and cooperation between high-ranking officials of both countries, the organization of a sports competition to strengthen ties and activities to promote cultural affairs and medical exchanges. The meeting also discussed the suppression of illegal drugs, the repatriation of war refugees and the boundary survey of the two countries.

Hopefully General Prayut will agree to share Thailand's cutting-edge TM30 technology with the Burmese.

Sounds like a "cut and paste" of all agreements with the other SEA countries.

In the meantime influential people will continue their trade in contraband.

With such a close relationship PM Prayut could always put in a quick call to the Supreme Commander of Myanmar should Thailand have an urgent need for a few Myanmar/Rohingyan scapegoats to blame for drug running, bombings, rapes and murders or any crime at all. Or even disposable slaves for Thai fishing boats.
