Perishable Thai Foods That Transport Well

Recommended Posts

Posted

Can anyone recommend some perishable thai foods that will transport well and still be edible 1 or 2 days after purchase?

I'm not asking about canned, dried, bagged goods....those are easy enough to find at the store and load into the luggage.

Any recommendations on fresh foods that could survive a long-haul flight?

Nam prik is a popular one for me.

Nam prik is the pounded mix of spices and bugs and stinky fish that accompany sticky rice.

"Bplah sap" is the pickled mudfish one, aroi aroi mak mak!! And very spicy. My favorite.

"Mangda" is the bug one. Smells like perfume...or flowers...no kidding, delicious!!

Ta dang, and narok are two more.

Look in the open street markets for big bowls mounded high with pastes. Usually grilled chicken and sticky rice is close by.

Good shelf life....nothing can live with the chilies......just keep refrigerated when you get home, and use a clean spoon every time you partake, it will last months.

Good luck, good eating and good hunting.
