September 12, 20196 yr hundreds of bees made a hive in my yard. they did not bother me so no problem. then after about a month they departed all at the same time and this was left behind. I have been watching and there are no bees anywhere near. none coming or going for about two weeks now. it does look as if it has "bee bodies or larvae" that are inside. but no movement. my maid said "Worth a lot." is she right? should i be like Pooh Bear and climb up and stick my nose in it?
September 12, 20196 yr You could remove it, check for honey if you like that ? If not ask the maid if she wants it or knows someone that would and let them remove it for you.
September 12, 20196 yr Popular Post Get it down, filter it through some cloth gauze and you'll have some very nice wild honey.
September 12, 20196 yr Popular Post Think you'll find its empty, no honey. You've gotta chase 'em out when they're still there for honey. Good for polishing the furniture with though.

Good for polishing the furniture with though. so its just a bunch of bees wax? i guess so. "Honey bee workers have four pairs of special wax-secreting glands on the undersides of their abdomens. From these glands, they secrete liquified wax, which hardens into thin scales when exposed to the air. As the worker bee ages, these glands atrophy and the task of making wax is left to younger bees." so old bees go to pattaya? Edited September 12, 20196 yr by NCC1701A

September 13, 20196 yr How is it that you haven't cut it down yet and checked it for honey? It looks like the cells are mostly capped, so the chances are good there is free honey in there. How often do you get honey for free in Thailand eh?
September 13, 20196 yr Wild Thai bees produce about a kilo of honey per year. But you cant harvest it without a special setup or take it all without damaging the colony. My guess is that this hive is empty. If you leave it there chance are another swarm will eventually set home there. From memory 1 kilo of wild honey is worth about $150 in the middle east.
