High water level being monitored in eight reservoirs

The Office of National Water Resources (ONWR) is monitoring flood waters in seven provinces – Rayong, Chantaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang-nga, Phuket and Krabi, while Trat and Ranong officials were ordered to evacuate people in five villages to safe areas.

 

The current water level in all reservoirs totals 52.17 billion cubic meters, or 64 per cent of total water capacity in Thailand.

 

The ONWR is monitoring eight large dams that have water levels exceeding 80 per cent of their capacity – Mae Jang Dam (81%), Nong Han Dam (112%), Lampao Dam (84%), Sirindhorn Dam (92%), Srinakarin Dam (84%), Vachiralongkorn Dam (89%), Kaeng Krachan Dam (82%) and Pranburi Dam (level unspecified as of now).

 

Five villages are at risk of landslides. Officials were ordered to evacuate people in Trat’s Bo Rai District (four villages) and Ranong’s Kapoe District (one village).

 

The flood situation is still dire in five provinces – Roi Et, Yasothon, Sisaket, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani.

 

The ONWR said that as the water level in the Mekong River is decreasing, the critical flood situation in Ubon Ratchathani might see relief in 24 days.
