Thammanat is Prayut’s Newin Chidchob

 

 

Thaksin Shinawatra’s downfall was due to many things, and one of the largely-underrated was the defection of a key lieutenant. Newin Chidchob took with him manpower, election strategies and political secrets, so it was not his emotional parting shot alone that really rattled the former prime minister.

 

Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao is to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha what Newin was to Thaksin. One newspaper analysis put the nail on the head when describing Thammanat as the man Prayut can’t live with and yet someone he can’t live without. Thammanat is a shrewd power broker, who knew a lot about Pheu Thai’s strategies and logistics. He was a reason why the pro-Prayut coalition edged past its rivals in the race to form a government.

 

One Democrat made an intriguing comment about Newin years ago: “You can’t help but like him, provided he’s on your side.” Thammanat is probably like that, which is underlined by the fact that he, like Newin, served Thaksin by doing dirty jobs and helping to solidify his party’s dominance in the northern parts of Thailand.

As was the blatant vote rigging, the nefarious allocation of seats to small parties (pro Prayut) who hardly got any votes, and,of course, the personal unopposed selection of the whole senate !

In politics and in times of need, which is almost at all times, to exonerate the inexorable become a necessity, and in this case, a person who served lengthy prison time on serious drug charges and lie about it in the face of undisputed evidence, so this is the face of the the people in the cabinet i guess...

A sort of Thai equivalent of "Uncle Guido" do you think....?

This guy is the bona fide dross of society. As unashamedly corrupt and ruthless as they come.

Newin for all his flaws hadn't done time for Heroin trafficking, nor had he been thrown out of the military or been forced to change his name multiple times to hide his criminal past.

The whole cabinet are iffy, but this guy is a different level of scum altogether.

Isn't this the international drug dealer guy?

Bad guys in everybody else out i guess is the governments strategy which is evident i guess.

another propaganda article from the state mass media, to whitewash drug dealer, and his boss, for taking rap.

Both are closely connected now, inseparable.

If thammanat goes, his boss will have to go.

That's why prayuth ignores the whole affair by saying it's insignificant.

according to the government, can Thammant be really hiding now on the board of Amnesty International Thailand?
