I have a Canadian passport which will expire in about 5 months. I was wondering whether it is possible to get the 30 day visa exampt stamp at the Combodian border?

Some people have told me that 30 day visa exampt stamp can be issued to people with passport that will expire in 3 months or more. However, other people have said that passport has to be valid for 6 months or more.

Does anyone know which one of these statements is true?

Passport needs to be valid for 30 days or more so you should not have any problem.

Is this information verifiable by any means? To be perfectly honest, my passport expires in 6 months and 6 days, hence I have little over a few days to decide whether I should go to Laos (something I'm not looking forward to), or to do the Combodia visa run. I'd like to be 100% sure, as otherwise my stay here might be cut short.

Hi,

From the same site {Delta} though, it states that a passport must be valid for 6 months to enter Cambodia. Might this not be an issue, assuming I've read the OP correctly and this is a 'visa run'.

Just coming back on this, in many places {Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia etc.} the 6 month rule is in place. I think that Hong Kong may still be 30 days {it was before reversion} for Commonwealth countries.

While not being able to comment on the 30 day visa exempt stamp issue I can confirm 2 weeks ago another embassy insisted my wife renewed her Thai passport prior to issuing a 3 month tourist visa. Her old passport would have had 6 months validity at the time she intended to travel.

Good question. Awaiting for an answer.

It is indeed a visa run.

my mate got a 30 dayer and he only had 2 weeks left on his passport

He is a rare bird. Immigration will not grant a stay that exceeds the passport validity.
