Keep the 1178 calls coming in! Indians arrested on overstay

Thai media has urged the public to keep calling immigration to report overstaying foreigners.

Naew Na reported that immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang was ultimately behind the arrest of two Indians in Saraburi.

Saraburi immigration and the local police took two men aged 31 and 32 into custody in the Wat Dao Reuang area of Muang district in the city north of Bangkok.

The 32 year old was on overstay of 455 days and the 31 year old had overstayed 1,464 days.

Thaivisa notes that the Saraburi area was central to inquiries in the last year that saw many Indians arrested for being involved in hundreds of sham marriages to Thai women.

Naew Na repeated the 1178 hotline for people to report illegal foreigners in Thailand.

A Thai poster on the story criticized the language used by Naew Na.

No, but nevertheless some Thais love snitching. In the soi where I live there are quite a few foreigners and I know of 2 maids (believe it or not) who have snitched on 4 or 5 them.

I used to get on well with the maids and they would often tell me about the so-called  illegal behaviour of some of the foreigners and that they had already told the police. Yes, it is true. One ran an illegal hotel.. immigration came and he closed down and .. well I don't know what happened to him.  Another ran some kind of "model agency", but was making films. He was deported.

Now I don't get on with the maids as I complained about them putting food out in front of our house for pigeons and rats. Yes, I know I have to watch my back and make sure everything is legal.

The Thais talk to each other and know everything we do. That is 100% certain.

When the economy is going down the s****er, stuff like this makes a great distraction.

Why you need call ins. The intelligence of IMO's tell us bio metrics system is capturing so many thousands now for overstays. LM<deleted>ingAO!

Attach a reward for each genuine overstayer caught, the number of snitches will at least double treble quadruple

It is quite likely that these guys were reported by Thai women who married them then had second thoughts or were not properly financially rewarded.

Muscling in on local trade also very likely of course.

I'm expecting more Expats out sooner, or later. Perhaps myself included, let's make place for the others.

Bad guys in. Good foreigners out...

How, in Bhudda's name, does a Thai know if you or I are overstaying? They will call that number 1000 times a day for nothing.

A post containing a derogatory ethnic slur comment toward Japanese people has been removed.

Off topic trolling posts and the replies have been removed.

If you are doing something that is worthy of being snitched out for, in what trashy world are you one of the 'good guys'?

I think it's $200 billion, not $20 billion.

I agree, Thailand's economic fundamentals are rather solid right now. They could improve things further by lowering their interest rates and letting the baht depreciate slightly. In my opinion.

And how are the people on the ground doing?
