A record number of people from the public and private sectors took part in the many pageants held in Nakhon Si Thammarat province to mark the annual Buddhist day of making merit on September 27. Apart from alms given to monks, some of the donations were offered to ghosts of the ancestors of donors.

KADUNA, Nigeria (Reuters) - More than 300 boys and men, some as young as five and many in chains and bearing scars from beatings, have been rescued in a raid on a building that purported to be an Islamic school in northern Nigeria, police said on Friday.

DUBAI (Reuters) - The British-flagged Stena Impero tanker arrived at Dubai's Port Rashid on Friday after sailing out of Iranian waters, according to Refintiv shipping data, after it was detained in July during a row with Britain that has stoked tensions in the Gulf.
