Pigeons

Can anyone suggest any ideas about getting rid of Pigeons. They "park" overnight on my balcony and I get up to see pigeon droppings everywhere. I've tried spinning cans and kites, they seem to work for a little while and then its "back to normal". I do not want to erect netting as it looks awful and detracts from the views.

The professional solution for stopping pigeons from roosting in aircraft hangars was to use plastic bristle strips bonded to the girders. The birds, when alighting, get their feet tangled and can't stand firmly. They don't like it and move on.

I don't know of a supplier in Thailand but suggest that you might want to experiment with some cheap nylon bristle brushes from the local market. You could stick these to the balcony rim - bristle side up! - using silicone sealant then it is easily removed if it doesn't work.

I had the same problem on my balcony in BKK!! They were making a huge mess, coo-ing half the night, and even built a nest and laid some eggs!

What I did was this:

  • Bought some fishing line (cheap!)
  • Dug up a bunch of old CDs I would never use again
  • Hung the CDs on the fishing line from the ceiling of the balcony, so that the CDs dangle 3-5 inches above the spots where they would perch and sit (on the aircon units, on the light fixture, on the floor in the corner, etc.)

It worked like a charm! They have not been back since! Apparently the shiny discs turning and and swaying in the light breeze really annoys them.

Of course, when people come over and step out on my balcony, they wonder the the fkcu is wrong with me.

Good luck!
