Will bank accounts automatic close?

Featured Replies

Hi, all. I recently opened two bank saving accounts with kasikorn and Bangkok bank under ED visa(mba). It takes about 18 months to complete. Will my accounts automatic close if my education completed? I am planning to leave 100k on each one.  Thank you

No, they won't close.

No they won't close, as long as you keep money in them,

but if you don't keep them active, someone working in the

bank might think you don't need the money, and make use

of it themselves,it happens.

When I left , I went to k- bank to drain my account but still wished for it to be open. I was told a minimum of $2000 baht must be left in the account so it would not be closed.

In general to avoid automatic closure for inactivity, you need to maintain a minimum balance of B 2000, and have at least one user-generated transaction per year. Keep a little extra money to cover service charges. Bank-generated activity such as service charges or interest credited do not count as user-generated activity.

If you already have a savings account, consider opening a fixed-term account for 3 mo., 6 mo. or 1 yr. They are usually happy to open one for you if you already have a savings acct,

Agree, and if the balance the minimum and no activity for several months the bank can start deducting a small monthly fee to keep the account open (they can do this, it's allowed under the banking regulations promulgated by the Bank of Thailand).

If the small fee is deducted every month then obviously it will reach a point where the account has zero balance and it will automatically close.

Most of my accounts are joint savings accounts with my Thai adult son, and there are regular transactions.

When I started internet banking I had to open a new account my name only to get internet banking started.

I now rarely use the 'me only' account but I want to keep it alive. So once every month I transfer 200Baht from a joint account to the 'me only' account then a few minutes later I transfer it back to the joint account. A nuisance but quite easy.
