I was told by 1st Class Visa Runs that the Chanthaburi border charges an extra 1,500 baht to cancel an ED visa before issuing a tourist visa. Here's the problem: Normally you can mark the visa complete at your school or at immigration. But Chanthaburi doesn't seem to care and charges the 1,500 anyways!

Does anyone know a better border where this doesn't happen? I may be willing to fly close to it from Utapao / Pattaya.

Welcome to Thailand (Joking)

However, you will have to ask yourself if the information really is true, and also if it is, will it be cheaper and better to pay for a flight ticket?

The do charge to cancel an extension of stay. I have seen other reports about it.

You could save some money by getting a letter from your school stating the date your studies end and have it canceled at immigration. You have to leave the country on the date shown on the cancelation stamp. Going a few days before that day to have a it canceled can be done.

Thanks. Any idea what to tell immigration? I guess "cancel visa this Thursday" or similar?

The date you extension will be canceled will be the date on the letter from the school.

You could go to 2 days before that day and would post date it to that day.
