with total spending of Bt2.22 trillion, said Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Yuthasak Supasorn.

There we go again... 666, 444, now 222... how do these people come up with these numbers? Where's 777?

How are they going to reduce accidents and risk of death?

They cannot do risk management on the roads, building sites, or other things, so how will they "protect"tourists from accidents??

If you don'l let the tourists in you will protect them from having an accident in thailand.

when economy sliding down,,, offer free visa,, reduce taxes,, etc, when economy goes up,, bring it back to previous level, etc..

Free flights and hotels and visas for quality Chinese and Indian tourists will do the trick. May not be good for revenue though.

Quality bagpackers for more revenue ????

Is that a hybrid of backpacker and begpacker?

Thailand have infrastructure for games like Asian, Common Wealth & ASEAN. This can attract more visitors and more revenue.

Cant have Euro games here as many in this thread wants, so they should go back there and spend high but we all know many dont have that.

Use common sense as we arent in a grammer class

Why does Thailand needs to boost tourism when TAT/TOT keep sending out reports claiming it's all hunky dory, every month % numbers up

Just do it the thai way.... make everything more expensive

They already have, doesn't seem to work though.

One thing we can  all agree is the huge amount of information from all government offices we can see openly everyday. Coming from Switzerland I would not know where to find so many government information and decisions from my government. +1 for them!

Why would that make any difference?

So that tourists can have more money in their pockets to enjoy a holiday! Currently 1 GBP = 37 baht. Not too many years ago 1 GBP = 60 baht!

Thirty-five years ago when i was in the process of decided whether or not to move to Thailand and make the investment to live here long-term, I made five trips to the country in 10 months.  The first and the fifth were on tourist visas and the other three were 30-day visa exempt.  Imagine if I were trying to do that today.  I would probably be refused entry after the third visit.  Since living here, I have spent many millions of baht, legally worked and paid taxes, and more that two dozen family members and friends have come to visit who would most likely never have considered Thailand for a holiday destination.  Those same people keep up with Thai news and are now asking me why I bother to stay given the Current government's attitude towards long-term expats.  Although the numerous hoops that we expats are do-able, they are annoying and I am becoming simply too old to keep jumping through them.  Thankfully, I came at a time when there was no 90-day report, and even more thankfully, a time when I could drive all over the country visiting more than fifty provinces without worrying about silly things like TM30 notifications.  I do love Thailand and my Thai family, consider Thailand my home, and will try and encourage friends and relatives to continue visiting me.  I am saddened that the government does not think is is important to take care of those who are already here and realize that we make meaningful contributions.  I also wish that the government would focus more on improving the lives of ordinary Thai people, especially regarding education, as well as make the effort to reduce pollution rather than spending billions on trying to attract more casual visitors.  Why does their need to be an increase year after year?  Isn't 40 million enough?

I do not believe any of this and if the baht stays at 30 and if touristhave to have insurance then you can cut theses number in half or lower  than that.

If Thailand continues to become a dictatorship run country then America will stop American from coming to Thailand the same as they have done to Cuba

Give them all a Personal Police Escort 24/7 , and the Escort will take care of all the paper work

for a small fee.

How about sticky rice and mango to new arrivals at the airport?

That should work.

They dont undetstand those factors:

People want travel less. Sustainibily and climate change start to make echo and behavior change. Its not only thailand, its everywhere.

Who wants to come to a land to a land where immigration laws are one of the most unfair in the world ??..

Who wants to come in a land where pollution/traffic/plastic are not tackle seriously making the country so dirty???

Who wants to visit a land with a strong money and huge importation taxes ???

Who wants to visit a land having the most dangerous road in the world ?  Thoses idiots dont understand that with internet, the whole world now look Thailand and its behavior.

So requiring big health insurance for mostly cover an accident made by thai..

The why nobody come here no more its endless and they wont accept the truth and make a change..

I'm out for good end the year

Yeah bring in more dirty busses full of Chinese and take them to the crocodile farm and the dolphin show.

Seriously, Thailand has not much to offer when compared to neighbouring countries.

Hosting more events? Meetings? Come on.

Make the Thais welcoming foreigners in the first place (teach them to value non-Thais).  Reduce

bureaucracy for foreigners willing to come and stay. Accept Thailand to be an open country where foreigners can live side by side with Thais, being accepted and not discriminated and looked down upon them.

Fix pollution problems.

And be aware of it, when you bring Chinese to Thailand they come in big herds on a tightly pre organised and pre paid trip. They paid already in China. And they are taken to places where their money goes mostly to Chinese businesses. And some of them return to take over Thai businesses buy condominiums and open shops. Just like all over the world. You called for tourism and they come and silently take over everything. One more country taken over by Chinese? According the doctrine of Xijinping, "win wars without fighting them" - good plan.

Good idea, the E-visa for Chinese! You might want to ask China to implement E-visa for Thais too......

All I read was blah blah blah blah

The number of foreign tourist arrivals in the first half stood at 26.5 million, up 2.83 per cent year on year.

Stop to regard  farangs who come to stay a year or so for relaxing in Thailand are coming to steal Thai jobs while in fact with their presence they are creating jobs for the Thais.

Edited by Destiny1990

Double pricing.

" New safety rules will be introduced to lessen the risks of accidents or death of foreign tourists."

When will they figure out that rules are one thing, but if you don't enforce them properly then they're pretty much meaningless?

Dont forget increased Hospital cost for Farang they were already charging Farang more in the private hospitals

Been wintering away for many years, I’m fit spend big money during my 5-6 months stay at top hotels. But last time for me I couldn’t give a toss what happens to Thailand or its people they have killed the Goose that lays the Golden Egg. And like Thousands of Geese I’m taking flight to more welcoming destinations and we ain’t flying back anytime soon. You welcome to the dog hole.
