Granted! But your crackpot theory goes both ways. Some considered him the crackpot. They did disparage Maxwell when his equations unknowingly stumbled on relativity first. They said "Well, obviously that's wrong, but we'll fix it later".

Right to protest peacefully with freedom of speech - absolutely.
 
Right to block the Queen's highway, people's free and safe passage - No, arrested, charged with public disorder and blocking the highway, if convicted, 6 months hard labor, maybe street cleaning or other useful activities!
 
Time laws started to be enforced and the rights of the individual stood up for.
That's for the police and authorities to make decisions which will contain a situation rather than inflame it. As opposed to the old geezer flog-em brigade who have little understanding how to manage things.

It's mostly the young who have been conned into believing the imminent extinction nonsense. Most of us old grumpies have heard it all before, more than once.
