Outdoor rain shower material

Featured Replies

I will soon fit an outdoor rain shower as part of a swimming pool install.

Are there any recommended metal types to use for longevity?

A shower head and wall valve I like is made from chrome plated brass.

Or should I use stainless steel.

The shower will not be in a shaded part of my garden.

Thanks.

My VRH stainless 304 Rain Shower and VRH shower mixer has worked perfect next to a swimming pool in Buriram Province since 2008.  VRH is a brand that offers 316 and 304 bathroom and kitchen fittings. Made in Thailand, available at most modern trade retailers, but not at HomePro.  The towel racks are also VRH and have never rusted.

If you are anywhere near the coast use only 316. 304 will pit & stain. Only a matter of time.

Thanks for the advice. Although not on the seafront I live on Samui but can't smell sea air from my place.

I take it chrome plated brass is a no no then?

I wouldn't. You don't know how good the chrome plating is!

If you are prepared to give it a wipe down & good clean weekly it would be OK for awhile.

But we tend to be slack in these areas and once pitted it would be too late.

On another subject I hope you are using salt chlorination with the pool?

Cheers

Most likely won't remember to wipe it down.

316 is surgical grade if I'm not mistaken. Should last. I'll see what's available locally to me.

Yes, I will be using salt chlorination.

Thanks.

316 is marine grade so OK with saltwater systems
