March 26, 200719 yr Hello, I've been in Thailand for almost two months on a single entry 60-day tourist visa. I have now decided that I'd like to stay in THailand for another 4 months to volunteer. I know that I can extend my visa for another 30 days without problem and I realize that I should have gotten a double entry visa before I left Canada, but is there any way that I can "upgrade" my single entry visa to a double entry visa? Thanks, Lauralee

Thanks, Lauralee I think volonteer work requires a work permit and that is only given on a non-im O or B visa/extension You cannot upgrade a visa in Thailand but you can get another single entry tourist visa in a Consulate/Embassy outside Thailand You could also do 3 times a visa run to stay an extra 90 days after your extension has expired making it a total of 180 days stay.
March 26, 200719 yr Author Thanks for the quick reply. I'll get my current visa extended here in Chiang Mai then go to Laos or Burma in a month to get another tourist visa which I'll have extended for one month. That will give me the time I need. As for volunteering and work permits, I didn't realize I might need a work permit to volunteer. I'm not sure if the organisation will give me a work permit since they told me to try to get a tourist visa... I'll have to check it out. Thanks so much for your help! Lauralee
