11th ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting to be held in Chiang Mai

The Ministry of Commerce will discuss the measures to stabilize Thai baht at the 11th ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting from April 1st to 5th.

The Permanent Secretary for Finance Ministry, Mr. Suparut Kawatkul, says the Ministry of Finance of Thailand will host the 11th ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting in Chiang Mai province from April 1st to 4th. The meeting members include the ASEAN Secretary-General, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) President, and the Finance Ministers from 10 ASEAN countries.

Mr. Suparut says the agenda of the meeting will include the development of capital market, the liberation of financial services, and the cooperation on ASEAN currency in order to achieve the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The ASEAN leaders have agreed to expedite the AEC from 2020 to 2015.

Mr. Suparut says the meeting will also discuss the ways to use the large savings of ASEAN optimally within the region. He says the savings may be used to develop the fundamental projects of ASEAN.
