The Commerce Ministry will hold a meeting on October 27 in Udon Thani with three parties to discuss the cassava price guarantee project.

“The parties are cassava farmers, entrepreneurs and government agencies,” Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanavisit.

The minister will also be presiding over a meeting to consult on the guidelines of income guarantee for cassava farmers and to listen to the opinions of cassava farmers in Udon Thani as well as government and private agencies.

This income guarantee used to be part of the Democrat Party’s key policies to help boost farmers’ revenue as part of grassroots economy stimulus. The policy focuses on cash crops namely rice, rubber, palm, cassava and maize.

And just who might these "entrepreneurs" be? Surely not elite greedy middle men who normally suck the life blood out of the farmers.

Just getting in the act in case any money comes the farmers way they can redirect into their own pockets.

The high baht seems to be taking it's toll. What next after cash crops of rice, rubber, palm, cassava and maize?

Perhaps cars, and car parts, electric components; or anything and everything Thailand exports.

What is the point of a price guarantee if you can't grow the crop.

Perhaps they'll guarantee that if you buy the crop/seeds they'll guarantee to pay you irrespective of it not growing?

Who knows how their minds work.

Is it sounding like a scheme a previous government ran?
