Tips for sleeping during long van ride

Featured Replies

I have a trip to a border in Chanthaburi coming up. Fortunately I'll be taking a 6 seat shuttle van so it can recline a bit although not fully. The ride will happen during my sleep hours (daytime in Thailand) so I'll be trying my best to sleep. In past van rides I have not been successful but maybe a 6 seater will make things a bit easier than a 10 seat configuration.

Do you guys have any tips on sleeping through these 8 hour (4 each way) van rides? The hardest part is not the shaking so much as the difficulty of being in a bad sleep posture. At home I am mostly a side sleeper.

Take a pillow with you, suprising how much difference it can make....

Noise cancelling earphones connected to a boring audiobook,or podcasts to seminars on quantum mechanics LOL  (plenty of them on youtube) does the trick for me on planes.

Just ask your driver I am reliably told they excel at sleeping whilst driving (its like a Thai national sport)

Sleeping will be the least of your worries. You would not get me in one of those things at gun point.

I'd only travel in one asleep so that when I die I don't see it coming.

I'm amused that the OP thinks that a 6 seat van means just 6 passengers...

Definitely fasten your seat belt..

And I would stay awake and be alert.. Never trust these drivers, they micro sleep too often..

Ativan, lorazapan, valium.

Ask the driver. They seem to have no problem being able to sleep during their rides.

Get three inter tubes, small car or tractor size, swim tubes may be good as well.

One for your hips, One for your mid section, and One for your Head.

Regulate the Air Pressure for comfort. Be sure to fasten seat belt, and your good to go.

Rest assured that if accident occurs  and you are thrown from vehicle,

You will be ready to Rock an Roll.

Pay a little extra and upgrade to Premium Economy class. More leg room and the meals are better.

pillow, eye shades, gel ear plugs, and a few benzo's ???? Happy days and nights ????

It would appear that having read the post heading my initial thoughts and reactions have been covered adequately, don't do it, comes to mind.

But if you have to please report in and let us know you made it both ways without (too many) incidents, good luck ????

Dont sit at theback, suspensions on these mini buses are generally useless, get a window seat and take a pillow!

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and shouting like the passengers in the van he was driving ????
